Collection of documents and letters concerning ecclesiastical disputes, church property, inquisition proceedings, etc., 1599-1815.

The chief documents relate to a dispute over tithes between the Mexico City Cathedral Chapter and the Society of Jesus, 1736; church repairs in old Veracruz, caused by earthquake damage, and other needs of that community, 1777-1783; controversy between the military and clergy at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1800-1815; the will of Ramírez Ponce de León, leaving his estate to the College of San Pedro y San Pablo, 1713-1714; description of the four paintings or images of Our Lady at the four corners of Mexico City, 1754; a jurisdictional dispute in regard to the estates of three bishops of Guadalajara, deceased, 1755-1759; a vacant prebend in the collegiate church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, near Mexico City, 1779; and the Inquisition's trial and punishment of Juan Peraza, 1599-1601, on a morals charge.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
